Derailment at Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, 1981. Eastbound train burned off a journal, both mains gone. Crowd control seemed to be a problem back then... Note the car load of lumber derailed to the south of the track structure into someone's backyard, and the hopper car across both mains in the distance.
Because of the poor train makeup and the excessive speed we ran on the Milwaukee, a lot of our derailments were bigger than they should have been. Track train dynamics were not a big deal back then. In the first photo, I'm standing on the westward track looking west just east of the Carnation Company. At the time there were 17 crossings in town.
