Before the "St. Paul" was called the "Milwaukee" and before the "Pacific" was added, the photo above was captioned as train #8 stopped at Portage,WI. Date on back showed 1898. Photo hung for years in the Trainmasters office at Portage and may still to this day. Back in the 80's when I occupied that office I photographed above photo hanging on the wall in hopes to someday share it with the world...

Buddy W. Riley San Antonio, Texas. I discovered your fantastic photos and even better stories many years ago on the Railpictures sight. They were the best of both photography and narrative of that sight. Was looking there today and found this site. I have long wished you would write a book with your stories, however as I am preparing to retire and having to document my management for the previous 40 years I realize what a task it becomes. You were blessed with a career where it while being the same was always different. One that you enjoyed tremendously. Peace and good health be with you.
